Overview

Model DTS4050/64Tx, Digital Temperature Scanner, is a multi-channel thermocouple scanner. Available channel configurations are 16, 32, or 64 channels. The DTS incorporates RAM, Integral Low Pass Filters, 22 bit A/D converters, and a microprocessor, all in a rugged stand alone scanner. An isothermal block is incorporated for the Uniform Temperature Reference (UTR) for each channel input. NIST thermocouple tables for standard thermocouple types are stored in flash memory and are used for accurate conversion to a configurable engineering units. The microprocessor uses these look-up tables to convert mV inputs to Engineering Units. Temperature data are output in °C, °F, °R, K, millivolts and A/D counts. The DTS4050 accuracy for different thermocouple types range from ±0.5°C to ±2.0°C depending on the thermocouple type and the useful temperature range. Multiple standard thermocouple types may be used with one intelligent thermocouple scanner, with each channel having its own thermocouple type and grounding scenario configuration. Standard DTS modules come with screw terminal inputs that allow for two or three wire shielded or non shielded thermocouple connections. Heaters are available for extended operational temperature in the 16 and 32 channel variants.

For any DTS3250 user, the DTS4050 is a drop-in replacement module, with backwards compatible software for applications where the DTS4050 must work with existing software or systems. DTS3250 and DTS4050 can operated on the same network, and communicate with the same controllers.

Applications

The DTS4050 Digital Thermocouple Scanner is ideal for use in turbine engine, diesel engine, and compressor test cells, as well as other industrial environments such as boiler and oven temperature monitoring. The module has a stainless steel enclosure, has an insulated and removable lid that covers the cold junction terminals, and has heavy duty shock mounts and mounting plate,  which make the DTS ideal for rugged and extreme test applications. The DTS4050’s electronics were specifically designed to endure punishing high EMI noise environments while still being able to provide accurate engineering data.  This allows the DTS4050 Intelligent Scanner to be mounted in close proximity to the test article, thus minimizing thermocouple wire lengths. Shorter thermocouple wires not only reduce errors, but also lower costs due to the elimination of extension cable.

The DTS4050 can be used in applications such as:

  • Turbine engine testing and development
  • Diesel engine testing and development
  • Compressor test cells
  • Boiler and oven temperature mapping
  • Flight testing
  • Educational and research facilities
  • And many more

The UTP-P is a 16-channel, non-intelligent isothermal block that can be used as a cold junction reference.

This calibration kit is used to buss a single voltage to 16 channel inputs on the DTS module, primarily used during calibrations and validations of the ADCs.
